1921 – Journey of Political Science as an academic discipline begins 

1938 – Political Science became a separate department with Debedra Nath Banerjee as the Head of the Department, Professor Abdur Razzaq was appointed as a teacher

1947 – Some teachers left the university as a consequence of the birth of two separate states – Pakistan and India

1952 – Our teeachers Professor Muzaffar Ahmad Chowdhury and Professor Burhanuddin Khan Jahangir participated in the Language Movement, Our student Abul Barkat was martyred

1954 – Professor Sarder Fazlul Karim, one of the prominent teachers of the department had been elected memeber of the Constituent Assembly

1956 – Eminent academic Professor Abdur Razzaq actively participated in the first ever constitution making process of Pakistan

1966 – Professor Mostafa Chowdhury as a student was arrested during the movement of Provincial Autonomy

1971 – For their participation in the War of LIberation, Professor Abdur Razzaq and Professor Muzaffar Ahmad Chowdhury were about to be prosecuted by the Pakistani Military Tribunal & Students like Sheikh Mohammad Abdullahil Baki (Bir Protik) Md. Ashraf Ali Khan, Md. Ataur Rahman and Mohammad Sadek sacrificed  their lives in the battlefield

1972 – Professor Abdur Razzaq advised the then political leadership about the nature of the future political structures of the new-born nation Professor Muzaffar Ahmad Chowdhury contributed to its constitution making process

1974 – Professor Muzaffar Ahmad Chowdhury became the first Education Minister of the country and laid the foundation of it’s education system

1990 – Teachers of the department – Professor Sarder Fazlul Karim, Professor Shamsul Huda Harun, Professor Harun-or-Rashid Professor Nurul Amin Bepari and Professor Ferdous Hossain were in the forefront in the movement against the autocratic Ershad regime

1996 – Professor Najma Chowdhury was the advisor to the Caretaker Government of Bangladesh. She also led CEDWA delegation in Beijing.

2007 – The department introduced semester system in its bachelor and master programmes. Professor Harun-or-Rashid was jailed for his leading role in the movement for democratic restoration against the then pseudo-autocratic rule

2014 – Commencement of Professional Master in Governance Studies (PMGS) programme

2022 – Produced more than ten thousand graduates till date
